WHAT IS ROCOCO ART?

Rococo style, is an artistic style that emerged in Paris in the early 18th century. 
Was soon adopted throughout France and later in other countries, principally Germany and Austria.
 It reflected the aesthetic tastes of the nobility, because they commisioned works to decorate their houses.

 It is characterized by:
- lightness
-  elegance
-  exuberant use of curving
-  natural forms in ornamentation
- elaborate decoration





ARCHITECTURE

Elaborately decorated:
- with curves
- with seashells
- with floral elements

In France this motifs are called "ROCAILLE" which led to the name "ROCOCO"

In this style...
- The pastel colours are used 
- It represents rural festivals and domestic scenes

 The swing (Jean Honoré Fragonard), 
This painting is the most famous one of this artistic style


SCULPTURE

The sculptures of this style were:
- Often small
- Represent joyful and mythological themes

Here in Spain, religious themes continued to predominate , although they were influenced by Rococo style
